Know your purpose

Know what you want out of therapy by reflecting on these questions:

  • What difficulties are you currently experiencing?

  • How are they affecting you? Consider your emotions and thoughts as well as the negative impact they’re having on your life.

  • What do you hope to gain from therapy? What do you hope will be better as a result?

Personalized consultation.

The phone consultation is a brief conversation used to determine if there is a good fit between you and I. This a great opportunity for me to learn about you and what you’re looking for, as well as for you to ask any questions you might have for me. Though every consult will be slightly different here are some things that may come up in your consult: what you’re looking for help with, my therapy style, rates and fees, scheduling, next steps, and any other questions you may have.

“Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that isn't you – all of the expectations, all of the beliefs – and becoming who you are.”

FAQs

What is therapy? How is it different from talking to friends or family?

Therapy is a unique opportunity to have a trained professional help you think objectively about yourself and your struggles.  A therapist helps you to develop coping skills, manage your emotions and gain perspective.

There may be ongoing or recent life complications that you need help getting through. We’ll work together to help you manage how you’re feeling, thinking and responding to life’s difficulties.

What can I expect from therapy?

Just like the reasons for therapy are different for everyone, most people can expect different experiences. The good news is that therapy is completely individually-focused, which is why everyone can get something different out of it. Generally, your life, your history, and any relevant insights will be important to the specific discussions, but in a very personal and individualized manner. Sometimes therapy can be focused on a specific need, in which case it’s a ‘short term’ solution, while in other cases, many people go to therapy regularly, each week, to simply look for more personal growth.

How long are sessions and how often do we meet?

Sessions are typically 50 to 60 minutes, and are most often scheduled weekly, although I am able to see you more frequently or for longer lengths of time if needed. Most of my clients have been struggling with challenging situations for a while by the time we meet. Weekly sessions will enable us to work towards your goals in an efficient way. As therapy progresses, we will determine if weekly sessions continue to be helpful or if more or less time should lapse between seeing one another.
